Drone Inspection of Crane Rails

Client: Brisbane Manufacturer

Project: Drone Inspection of Crane Rails for 10 tonne Crane

Date: 02/2019

Project Description: Ferrier Engineering was engaged by a large manufacturer in Brisbane to visually inspect crane rails for significant misaligment, missing fasteners and debris on the rail and mounting beam.

The particular location of the crane rails is not readily accessible by scissor-lift or boom-lifts, and the cost of providing scaffold access to the area was prohibitive. Inspecting the crane rails via drone radically reduced the cost of visual inspection.

Scope of Works:

  • Develop a safe ‘flight-plan’ for capturing footage of all crane-rails.
  • Capture video footage of the crane rails with a DJI Spark (for restricted areas) and DJI Mavic Pro for less-restricted area.
  • Supply 4K video footage of the rails for secondary review by the client.
