Client: Metal Maintenance

Project: Design and Drafting of Pump Retrieval System for Tugun Desalination Plant

Date: 07/2016             Time to Completion: 3 week

Deliverables:

  • Detailed fabrication drawing packs for the pump retrieval system, including .DWGs for laser cutting of all structural plates
  • Design certificate signed by Registered Professional Engineer of Queensland (RPEQ)

Description: Ferrier Engineering was engaged by Metal Maintenance to develop a solution for the retrieval of a submerged pump at the Tugun Desalination plant. The previous method of pump retrieval involved the use of a ‘Pick-and-Carry’ crane in conjunction with a manual rope tie-off. The cost of crane hire and the large manual handling risks involved were not acceptable to the plant owner.

Ferrier Engineering developed a practical, economical retrieval system utilising a jib crane, twin beam clamps, electric hoist and PEWAG Stainless Steel pump lift chain to significantly reduce the cost and manual handling risks of retrieving the pumps (for maintenance tasks).
